Newberry College and its football program are grieving the loss of 18-year-old Mycheal Edwards-Wallace, an incoming freshman tragically killed in a shooting at a Kingstree, South Carolina apartment complex on Sunday. The incident left two dead and two injured, with no arrests reported as of Monday.
Edwards-Wallace, a standout athlete from Lake City High School, was weeks away from starting his collegiate football career as a defensive lineman at the Division II school. Head coach Todd Knight called the loss “a tragedy,” praising the teen’s academic drive, leadership, and vibrant personality. “He had a bright future. We were excited to welcome him—he’ll always be part of our family,” Knight said.
