The referee involved in Jude Bellingham’s controversial red card has spoken out about the abuse directed at his family, claiming football is “promoting violence” and “getting out of hand.” Juan Luis Munuera Montero dismissed Bellingham during Real Madrid’s LaLiga clash with Osasuna on Saturday, alleging the England star shouted “f you” at him. Bellingham insists he muttered “f off” in frustration at himself, but the referee’s decision stood, risking a lengthy ban for the midfielder.

The incident sparked outrage, with Real Madrid reportedly considering leaving LaLiga over perceived biased officiating. Munuera Montero is also under scrutiny by Spain’s football federation (RFEF) for running Talentus Sports, a consultancy linked to clubs like Manchester City and Atletico Madrid. However, he denies financial ties to football entities, stating on Spanish TV show El Partidazo: “I’ve never been paid by clubs or leagues.”

Munuera Montero revealed his family endured threats and harassment following the incident. “My 80-year-old father went to mass and faced abuse. My brothers, nephews—they’re suffering,” he said. “Are we controlling violence or promoting
