Wendy Williams, 60, has spoken out for the first time since undergoing an independent psychiatric evaluation, calling into Good Day New York from Lenox Hill Hospital on Tuesday. The former talk show host, who has likened her assisted living facility to a “prison,” addressed her guardianship battle and health struggles.

Williams revealed she passed the evaluation with “flying colors” and emphasized her desire for autonomy. “I want to be independently tested. That’s what I got,” she told host Rosanna Scotto. When asked if she distrusted the court’s previous assessments, Williams avoided specifics but stated, “There’s certain people I don’t care to talk to or talk about.”

The TV personality, under financial guardianship since 2022, dismissed the need for a “sober companion,” asserting, “I am not drinking, ever in my life.” However, she expressed frustration over her finances being controlled by her court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey. “The money I have right now is all with my guardian person,” Williams said, sidestepping questions about fees deducted from her accounts.

Williams’ attorney, Gina, joined the call, confirming plans to present the new evaluation results to a judge. “These are independent, factual tests from a well-known hospital,” Gina stated, expressing confidence they could help free Williams from her conservatorship.

The star, who has been confined to a memory care unit, lamented her lack of freedom: “I’m on the fifth floor… you don’t remember anything. I’m not allowed to go outside.” She revealed she needs permission even to use the facility’s gym and has only left twice in a month.

In February, Williams denied being “cognitively impaired,” while her family seeks legal help to “regain control of her life.” Scotto criticized the restrictions, comparing them to punishment: “They’re locking you up like you committed a crime.” Williams echoed the sentiment, calling her situation “my life” and stressing that ending the guardianship is her top priority.

The interview concluded with Williams vowing to continue fighting for independence, declaring, “This is my life, and I want it back.”
