The Bakery Group has issued a recall for two bread products sold in Texas over concerns they contain undeclared milk and Yellow 5, a synthetic dye linked to cancer in animal studies. The FDA classified the recall as Class II, indicating a low but potential risk of temporary health issues.

Recalled Products

  • Dense Brioche Pullman Loaves (Product Code 654293): 629 cases sold.
  • 4.5in Brioche HB Buns (Product Code 54500): 104 cases sold.

These items were distributed to Fort Worth and Rodeo Goat Casa Linda Store in Dallas between December 24, 2024, and March 12, 2025. Customers are urged to discard the products or return them for a refund.

Why the Recall Happened

A routine state inspection revealed the error, traced to mislabeling in The Bakery Group’s packaging department. The company stated the issue was resolved by March 19.

Health Risks

  • Yellow 5: Derived from petroleum, this dye has been associated with hyperactivity in children and contains trace carcinogens like benzidine. While FDA-approved, it must be listed on labels.
  • Undeclared Milk: Can trigger severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, which requires immediate epinephrine treatment.

What Consumers Should Do

Check packaging for the product codes and dispose of or return affected items. No illnesses have been reported, but the FDA advises caution.

The Bakery Group apologized, stating, “We regret this error and any inconvenience caused.”
