Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown didn’t hold back when discussing Kansas City on his St. Brown Brothers Podcast, calling it a city he’d avoid despite its status as home to the Super Bowl-winning Chiefs and superstar Travis Kelce. The remarks came during a conversation with Houston Texans rookie Jaylin Noel, a Kansas City native, sparking backlash online.

Noel, drafted by Houston in April, compared his new city to his Midwest roots. “Houston’s a lot faster. Kansas City is a ‘medium’ city—some slow parts, some faster parts,” said the Iowa State standout. “The humidity in Houston is no joke, though.”

St. Brown seized the moment to mock KC. “I’ve been there for the draft. If you have money, I’m not living here,” he quipped. His brother and co-host, Equanimeous St. Brown, then asked Noel if he’d return to Kansas City long-term. “I’d probably get a place in Dallas,” Noel replied, citing his fiancée’s ties to Texas—though he praised KC’s food scene.

Fans quickly clapped back at St. Brown’s critique. “You live in Detroit…” wrote one social media user, while another added, “How’s that Detroit life working out?” Others defended Kansas City’s charm: “It’s great for families. If you want nightlife, go to Miami or NYC.”

Despite the jab, Kansas City remains a sports powerhouse, hosting the Chiefs’ recent dynasty and the NFL Draft. Meanwhile, St. Brown continues to shine in Detroit, coming off a career-high 1,515 receiving yards in 2024.
