Boxing star Conor Benn found himself in a cringe-worthy moment during the British Grand Prix grid walk when Sky Germany presenter Peter Hardenacke admitted live on air that he didn’t recognize him. The incident unfolded at Silverstone on Sunday, where Benn mingled with celebrities like actor Tom Holland and football legend Ian Wright ahead of the Formula 1 race.

Benn, fresh off announcing his September 20 rematch with Chris Eubank Jr., was approached by Hardenacke and co-presenter Ralf Schumacher during Sky Germany’s pre-race coverage. The interaction turned awkward when Hardenacke confessed, “Sorry, I don’t know you. Please introduce yourself.”

Instead of revealing his identity immediately, Benn played coy, replying, “I’m just here to enjoy Formula 1. It’s a great experience.” When pressed about his name, the 28-year-old boxer finally said, “Conor Benn”—prompting Hardenacke to joke, “I learned something again. Some people will probably blame me for this!”

The presenter later explained to BILD that Benn’s manager had urged the interview, leaving him scrambling for details. “Normally, my cameraman tells me who’s in front of me, but nothing came this time,” he admitted. Despite the blunder, the pair shook hands afterward, with Benn taking the mix-up in stride.

Benn’s fame surged after his electrifying April bout against Eubank Jr., which he lost by unanimous decision. Their rematch, set for September, reignites a family feud dating back to their fathers’ iconic 1990s rivalry. While Hardenacke might tune in, Benn’s focus remains on redemption: “It’s about pride and legacy,” he recently stated.

The British GP itself delivered drama, with Lewis Hamilton securing a record-breaking win. But for Benn, the weekend’s highlight was unforgettable—even if Hardenacke’s faux pas stole the spotlight.
