England football legend Paul Gascoigne, 58, was rushed to the hospital on Friday after collapsing at his Dorset home. A friend discovered him semi-conscious in his bedroom, prompting an emergency response. Gascoigne was initially admitted to intensive care but has since been moved to an acute medical unit, where he remains in stable condition.

Friend’s Account
Steve Foster, Gascoigne’s driver and personal assistant, found the former midfielder and drove him to the hospital. “Gazza would like to thank everyone for their support,” Foster said. “He’s in the best possible place right now.” Doctors expect Gascoigne to recover in the hospital for several days.

Longstanding Health Struggles
The incident adds to decades of health challenges for Gascoigne, who has battled alcohol addiction and mental health issues. Despite setbacks, he shared an optimistic update earlier this year, telling The Mirror, “I feel better now than I have in years. It’s time people saw the real me.”

Career Highlights and Personal Struggles
Gascoigne’s 57 England caps and electrifying performances at clubs like Tottenham, Lazio, and Rangers cemented his legacy as one of England’s greatest players. However, his post-retirement life has been turbulent. A brief managerial role at Kettering Town in 2005 ended amid struggles with alcohol, while financial woes led to a near-bankruptcy in 2008. Legal issues, including a 2010 drink-driving charge and a 2015 restraining order, further clouded his later years.

Fans worldwide have rallied online, sharing messages of support. Gascoigne’s resilience remains a focal point, with many hoping this scare marks a turning point toward sustained recovery.

For now, the football icon continues to fight—both on and off the pitch.
