Alex McKinnon’s Ex-Wife Shares Joyful Update on New Love Post-Paralysis

Teigan Power, ex-wife of former Newcastle Knights player Alex McKinnon, has announced she’s expecting a baby with boyfriend Jake Nelson. The couple revealed the news on Instagram Wednesday with photos of Power cradling her baby bump during a beach photoshoot. “What’s one more… Baby Nelson incoming,” she captioned the post.

Power and Nelson went public with their relationship in December 2023, nearly two years after her split from McKinnon. Their romance has grown increasingly serious, with Power sharing heartfelt tributes to Nelson last July, posting, “Truly obsessed. Thank you for loving the girls and I.” The pair recently celebrated their one-year anniversary.

Co-Parenting and Moving Forward

Power and McKinnon, who were married in 2017, divorced in 2022 after 12 years together. They share three daughters and have maintained a supportive co-parenting relationship. Photos of them jointly dropping their child at preschool earlier this year drew praise online for their united approach. McKinnon, paralyzed during a 2014 NRL game, emphasized their commitment to teamwork: “We are still really close… Being a parent is such an important job, and having a strong relationship with their mum is just as important.”

McKinnon’s New Chapter

Since their split, McKinnon has also found love, dating Lily Malone since 2024. The pair met while he studied at the University of Newcastle, where he earned a Bachelor’s in Psychological Science in 2023. He credited his studies with helping him rediscover himself post-divorce: “It got me out of my comfort zone… I’ve met so many lovely people and rebuilt my confidence.” Malone, a social work student, has supported his journey, with the couple sharing their relationship publicly last December.

Power and Nelson’s Growing Family

Power’s pregnancy marks a new milestone in her relationship with Nelson, whom she’s called a loving partner to her and her daughters. Images accompanying the announcement showcased the couple’s joy, including a kiss on the beach and playful snaps. Fans flooded the comments with congratulations, celebrating their expanding family.

Overcoming Adversity

McKinnon’s resilience continues to inspire. After his career-ending spinal injury in 2014, he proposed to Power during recovery, calling her his rock. Though their marriage ended, he remains grateful for their children: “Teigan gave me three beautiful girls who’ve given me purpose.” Now focused on co-parenting and his career, McKinnon balances fatherhood, advocacy, and his budding relationship with Malone.

Both Power and McKinnon exemplify moving forward with grace, prioritizing family amid life’s twists. As they embrace new beginnings, their story highlights love, growth, and the power of partnership in all its forms.
