Antony has reignited his career at Real Betis, scoring four goals and providing four assists in just 10 appearances since joining the Spanish club on loan from Manchester United. The Brazilian winger, who cost United £85 million in 2022, struggled during his tenure at Old Trafford, managing only 12 goals in 96 matches. Now, he’s candidly revealed one surprising factor behind his Premier League woes: Manchester’s gloomy weather.
“The sun here helps a lot, and the city [Seville] is better than Manchester,” Antony remarked, contrasting his new surroundings with life in rainy England. His upturn in form continued Thursday with a goal in Betis’ Conference League win over Vitoria, further highlighting his resurgence.

Physicality and Weather: A Double Whammy
United boss Ruben Amorim recently cited the Premier League’s physical demands as another hurdle for the 25-year-old. “When you play against any team in England, the physicality is there. If you don’t have physicality, you will struggle a lot,” Amorim told Rio Ferdinand on TNT Sports. “Antony is so much better now in Spain… I guarantee it’s [due to] physicality.”
Antony’s loan deal includes Betis covering 84% of his £100,000 weekly wages—a figure United are relieved to offset. The La Liga side has expressed interest in making the move permanent, while United aim to recoup part of their initial investment.

A Fresh Start in Sunnier Climes
Antony’s resurgence underscores how a change of environment can reignite form. With Betis sitting comfortably in La Liga and advancing in Europe, the Brazilian’s flair and productivity have become central to their campaign. For United, his revival offers hope of a financial return—and a lesson in signing players suited to England’s rugged style.
