Former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick issued a dire warning about America’s future following the fatal shooting of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, blaming the tragedy on an “epidemic of mental illness” and suggesting the U.S. could be headed toward civil unrest.
Kirk, 31, was killed by a single gunshot during a rally at Utah Valley University on September 11. Footage shows a suspect sprinting across the rooftop of a nearby building moments after the shooting. The father of two collapsed instantly and later died at the hospital, leaving behind his wife, Erika Frantzve, and their young children.

Patrick, a vocal supporter of Donald Trump’s MAGA movement, reacted fiercely on social media, posting, “What the f***?! We have an epidemic of mental illness.” She described feeling “sad and angry,” adding, “I am worried about anarchy and civil war… We haven’t progressed as humans. This is frightening.”
Authorities initially detained an elderly man near the scene but released him after determining he was not involved. The FBI continues searching for the shooter, who reportedly fired from 200 feet away. Eerie video shows a shadowy figure fleeing the rooftop of UVU’s Lossee Center.

Kirk, known for his conservative advocacy, was mid-speech when the bullet struck his neck. Attendees rushed to aid him as chaos erupted. Trump mourned Kirk on Truth Social, calling him a “legendary” figure who “understood the heart of America’s youth.”
Patrick, increasingly politically active, shared clips of Kirk debating hot-button issues and criticized societal division. “We could all be living in joy, but so many choose to be victims,” she wrote.

The tragedy has reignited debates about political violence and mental health. UVU officials confirmed heightened security measures at future events. Meanwhile, Kirk’s followers mourn a leader they say championed free speech and traditional values.
Patrick’s stark warning underscores America’s deepening divisions, as fears grow over whether ideological clashes could escalate further.
