Scandal-plagued former AFL player agent Ricky Nixon, 62, was arrested in Melbourne on Thursday after allegedly threatening to kill police officers in social media posts. Detectives in bulletproof vests handcuffed Nixon, who reportedly pleaded with them to be “gentle” due to a shoulder injury. Channel Seven revealed Nixon claimed his Facebook account was “hacked” to justify the posts.
This arrest adds to Nixon’s extensive legal troubles. In June 2024, he received a community corrections order for assaulting an Australia Post worker in March 2022. Magistrates found he punched, kicked, and threw a package at the worker during a dispute at his Port Melbourne home.
Fraud Charges and Fake Football Scandal
Nixon also faces 10 criminal charges of obtaining property by deception and creating false documents tied to the sale of fake signed AFL memorabilida. The case revolves around 2021 sales of Melbourne Demons “premiership footballs” for $575 each, which Nixon allegedly falsely claimed were signed by Grand Final-winning players.

In a surprise move, Nixon sacked his lawyers weeks before a February 2025 court hearing and opted to represent himself. He denies wrongdoing, arguing a third-party “conman” swapped genuine balls with fakes to fund a drug habit. Three witnesses and a police informant were slated to testify.
Mounting Financial and Legal Woes
Nixon’s troubles extend beyond criminal charges. In April 2024, Melbourne businessman Greg O’Shea sought to bankrupt him over an unpaid $40,000 debt. The ex-agent, who once managed stars like Wayne Carey and Tony Lockett, has seen his reputation crumble amid repeated scandals.
Authorities continue investigating the alleged social media threats, while Nixon’s fraud case remains ongoing. His fall from grace serves as a stark cautionary tale in the sports world.
