Texas offensive lineman Kelvin Banks Jr. experienced a whirlwind of emotions during the 2025 NFL Draft—celebrating his top-10 selection by the New Orleans Saints while handling an unexpected parenting moment live on national television.
Banks, a standout from the University of Texas, was picked ninth overall by the Saints, a career-defining achievement. But as cameras captured the joyous scene in his living room, his infant son, Khalil, stole the show by vomiting during the festivities. The moment, caught on ESPN’s broadcast, quickly went viral.
Khalil’s messy moment unfolded as Banks’ partner, Demetria, clapped excitedly, inadvertently jostling the baby. Social media erupted with humor, with fans joking, “The Saints’ pick was too much for the baby to handle!”
From College Star to NFL Protector
Banks, 21, enters the league as one of the most decorated linemen in the 2025 class. In 2024, he claimed the Lombardi Award (top lineman) and Outland Trophy (best interior lineman) while earning All-American honors. His role at Texas included anchoring an offensive line that allowed just 1.2 sacks per game, making him a prized addition for a Saints team seeking to revitalize its offense.
New Orleans, coming off a 5-12 season and four straight playoff misses, hopes Banks can bolster protection for quarterback Derek Carr. “He’s a franchise cornerstone,” said Saints GM Mickey Loomis. “His technique and leadership are exactly what we need.”
Banks (No. 78) dominated college football, earning accolades for his agility and strength.
