Benjamin Sesko
Benjamin Sesko has reportedly decided to join Newcastle from RB Leipzig this summer.

RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko has ended speculation about his future by opting to join Newcastle United, according to Slovenian outlet Delo. The 22-year-old had been pursued by Manchester United and Newcastle, with both clubs eager to bolster their attacking options. Arsenal initially showed interest but withdrew to focus on signing Viktor Gyokeres.

Newcastle’s successful bid could trigger a domino effect in the Premier League. The Magpies are preparing for the potential departure of Alexander Isak, who is pushing for a £150m move to Liverpool. A £110m offer from the Reds was recently rejected, but Isak’s desire to leave has intensified negotiations.

Alexander Isak
Alexander Isak’s likely exit to Liverpool paved the way for Newcastle to pursue Sesko.

Sesko, a 6ft 4in forward, scored 21 goals for Leipzig last season and has drawn comparisons to Erling Haaland for his athleticism and technical skill. His arrival at St. James’ Park would soften the blow of losing Isak, with Newcastle reportedly willing to meet Leipzig’s £60m–£70m valuation. The German club has an informal agreement to let him leave for the right price.

Manchester United, meanwhile, face a setback after prioritizing Sesko as a key target. Manager Ruben Amorim had identified the Slovenian international as an upgrade over inconsistent striker Rasmus Højlund. United’s recruitment chief Christopher Vivell, who worked with Sesko at Red Bull Salzburg, called him a “future world-class talent.” The club may now turn to alternatives like Brentford’s Yoane Wissa or Wolves’ Jørgen Strand Larsen.

For Newcastle, securing Sesko aligns with their strategy to compete for Champions League qualification. Eddie Howe’s side has emphasized that Isak would only be sold if a suitable replacement was found, and Sesko fits the profile. The striker’s 16 goals in 41 appearances for Slovenia further highlight his readiness for the Premier League.

The transfer saga underscores the high stakes of this summer’s market, with clubs scrambling to secure elite talent. As Newcastle closes in on Sesko, all eyes turn to Liverpool’s next move for Isak—and whether United can rebound swiftly.
