Harvard Scientist Proposes Ancient Martian Civilization Annihilated by Nuclear Warfare
Ancient Nuclear War on Mars? Scientist Revives Controversial Theory
Harvard physicist Dr. John Brandenburg has reignited debate with his claim that an ancient Martian civilization was obliterated by a nuclear attack from an alien race. According to his theory, advanced beings called Cydonians and Utopians were annihilated in an interstellar conflict, leaving isotopic clues and mysterious structures on Mars.
The Nuclear Evidence
In 2011, Brandenburg proposed that Mars’ red hue stems from a thermonuclear explosion. His 2014 study noted elevated levels of Xenon-129—a gas linked to nuclear reactions—alongside uranium and thorium in the Martian soil, mirroring Earth’s nuclear test sites. NASA’s Curiosity rover later detected unusual Xenon-126 concentrations in Mars’ Cydonia region, famous for pyramid-like formations and a “Face on Mars” (pictured below). While NASA attributes these features to natural erosion, Brandenburg insists they are remnants of ancient cities destroyed in a nuclear strike.

Skepticism from Mainstream Science
Critics highlight the absence of craters or fallout signatures typical of nuclear blasts. NASA suggests isotopes could result from asteroid impacts or natural geological processes. The “Face on Mars,” captured in a 1976 Viking orbiter image, is dismissed as an optical illusion (see below). Brandenburg’s work, published in lesser-known journals, remains contentious.

Podcast Revelations and CIA Links
The theory regained traction on The Danny Jones Podcast, where philosopher Jason Reza Jorjani cited CIA documents describing a dying Martian civilization. Declassified files from a 1984 CIA project reveal remote viewer Joe McMoneagle’s vision of a desolate Mars with giant pyramids and humanoids twice Earthlings’ size. McMoneagle claimed ruins matched later NASA images (pictured), though the agency denies this.

A Mystery Persists
Brandenburg estimates the alleged attack occurred 100 million years ago, aligning with McMoneagle’s visions of a climate-collapsed Mars. While mainstream science remains unconvinced, the blend of isotopic data, astronaut lore, and CIA intrigue keeps the theory alive. As Jorjani noted, “When you connect Brandenburg’s findings with declassified projects, it paints a disturbing picture.”
Whether evidence of interplanetary war or sci-fi speculation, the Red Planet’s secrets continue to captivate—and divide—experts and enthusiasts alike.
