Hibs’ McGovern Savors SWPL Triumph, Prioritizes Growth Amid Sky-High Potential
Kathleen McGovern: Hibs’ Star Hungry for More After Historic Season
Kathleen McGovern’s feet are rarely still. Even after a post-season holiday, the Hibernian Women’s striker couldn’t resist lacing up her trainers. Fresh from a 31-goal season, a SWPL title, and a breakthrough into the Scotland squad, the 23-year-old is already eager for the new campaign.

“I miss being around the girls, the laughs, and the training,” McGovern admitted. “I can’t ever properly rest. Mentally, I needed a break, but I still snuck in a few runs!”
Her relentless drive paid off. McGovern’s goals propelled Hibs to their first league title since 2007, earning her two Scotland caps and a maiden international goal against the Netherlands. Despite the success, she remains grounded. “Football can change quickly. I’ve seen that already. My focus is on Hibs and defending our title,” she said.
Yet, ambition lingers. “Long term, I want to test myself at the highest level possible. But right now, I’m all in for Hibs.”

Champions League Dreams
Hibs’ next challenge is the revamped Women’s Champions League, with Tuesday’s draw determining their path. McGovern is buzzing: “Everything’s new—the travel, playing abroad. We can make an impact.”
Reflecting on last season’s dramatic climax, she still marvels. Few expected Hibs to recover from a crushing Sky Sports Cup final defeat to Rangers. But on the final day, they stunned their rivals at Ibrox to clinch the title. “It hasn’t sunk in,” McGovern admitted. “People wrote us off, but we believed. Winning there was the best moment of my career.”
Scotland Breakthrough
Her meteoric year peaked with a Scotland call-up. Initially doubtful of playing time, McGovern seized her chance, scoring against the Netherlands—a moment she’s rewatched endlessly. “My dad still plays it on his phone!” she laughed. “It makes me hungry for more. Staying in the Scotland squad is a priority.”
Hibs ended a 16-year wait for league glory.
Looking Ahead
With Hibs’ pre-season approaching, McGovern’s hunger is undimmed. “I’ve played my best football yet, but there’s more to come.” Her mantra? Stay present. “I don’t look too far ahead. Football’s unpredictable.”
Yet, if her trajectory continues, McGovern’s future—whether at Hibs, abroad, or with Scotland—promises even brighter highs. One thing’s certain: she won’t stand still.
