Cronulla legend Adam Dykes has revealed Rabbitohs halfback Jamie Humphreys was already “built like an Adonis” by age 11 during his junior football days in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire. Humphreys, now 22, played alongside Dykes’ son Kade and Sharks winger Sam Stonestreet, forming a dominant trio at De La Salle that clinched multiple junior titles.

Dykes, who coached the group, recalled Humphreys’ standout physique and drive. “At 11 or 12, Jamie had the body of an 18-year-old. While other kids were skinny, he looked like a Greek god. But it wasn’t just his athleticism—his competitive fire set him apart,” Dykes told the Sydney Morning Herald. Humphreys will face longtime teammate Stonestreet this weekend as the Rabbitohs take on Cronulla.
The rising star’s journey to the NRL wasn’t straightforward. After being overlooked by Manly, South Sydney signed him as a backup in 2024. However, under coach Wayne Bennett, Humphreys has seized his chance, outshining high-profile recruit Lewis Dodd. His composure under pressure—evidenced by a game-winning field goal against the Dragons—has drawn praise, including cheeky admiration from NRL immortal Andrew Johns.

Johns recently quipped on The Sunday Footy Show: “Is he single? Watch out for those Instagram DMs!” after seeing a shirtless photo of Humphreys. The lighthearted moment underscored Humphreys’ growing profile.
Meanwhile, English halfback Lewis Dodd remains determined despite being stuck in reserve grade. “I know my strengths. I came here to play NRL, and I’ll keep pushing,” Dodd said. His relegation highlights Humphreys’ rapid rise from bargain signing to South Sydney’s linchpin.

Dykes emphasized Humphreys’ relentless mindset: “He hated losing, even as a kid. That hunger, combined with his talent, destined him for the top.” With Bennett’s mentorship and a flawless start to 2025, Humphreys is poised to become one of the NRL’s brightest stars.
