Liverpool have finalized a blockbuster deal to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike for a fee that could reach £82million, according to multiple reports. The 23-year-old French forward, who starred for Frankfurt last season, is set to become the German club’s record sale—surpassing Randal Kolo Muani’s £76.4m move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2023.

Ekitike starred for Frankfurt last season, scoring 22 goals in all competitions.
Ekitike is expected to undergo a medical next week before signing a six-year contract with the Reds. The deal aligns with Liverpool’s pre-season plans, as Arne Slot’s squad prepares to depart for a tour of Asia. His arrival will mark Liverpool’s fifth major signing this summer, following Florian Wirtz (£85m), Jeremie Frimpong (£45m), Milos Kerkez (£30m), and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili (£40m). The club’s spending has now exceeded £250m, with more additions potentially to come.
Newcastle’s Bid Rejected
Newcastle United had previously seen a £70m offer for Ekitike rejected, as it fell short of his release clause. The Magpies’ interest in the striker had sparked speculation about Alexander Isak’s future, but Liverpool have now pivoted decisively to secure Ekitike.

Ekitike’s 15 Bundesliga goals earned him a spot in the league’s Team of the Season.
Ekitike’s Rise to Prominence
Ekitike enjoyed a career-best campaign in 2024/25, netting 22 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions. His 15 Bundesliga strikes and creative flair earned him widespread acclaim, including a place in the Bundesliga Team of the Season. Prior to joining Frankfurt in 2024, he endured a mixed spell at PSG, scoring just four goals in 33 games after initially arriving on loan from Reims.
Liverpool’s Window: Big Spending, Key Exits
While Liverpool continue to bolster their squad, several high-profile departures are expected. Trent Alexander-Arnold has already completed a move to Real Madrid, while defender Jarell Quansah joined Bayer Leverkusen. Darwin Núñez, Luis Díaz, and Harvey Elliott have also been linked with potential exits as the club reshapes its roster.

The Reds’ spending spree underscores their ambition to dominate under Slot, who replaced Jürgen Klopp in 2024. Ekitike’s clinical finishing and versatility add depth to an attack already featuring Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo. With pre-season underway, all eyes will be on how quickly the Frenchman adapts to English football.
