Former MasterChef Australia fan favorite Savindri ‘Sav’ Perera has announced her exciting new role as a judge on the inaugural season of MasterChef Sri Lanka. The Season 16 third-place finisher, who also competed in 2024’s Back To Win series, shared the news on Instagram, calling it a “dream come true.”

In her heartfelt post, Sav reflected on her journey: “Never in a million years did I think applying for MasterChef Australia would lead here. Being unapologetically Sri Lankan opened this door.” She praised her fellow judges—renowned chefs Peter Kuruvita, Rohan Fernandopulle, and Kapila Jayasinghe—as “the best of the best,” humbly acknowledging her own “baby steps” in the culinary world compared to their accolades.

Despite her excitement, Sav admitted battling imposter syndrome: “I felt underqualified and wondered what value I could add. But my experience as a contestant—knowing the highs of wins and lows of eliminations—is my strength.”

Fans rallied behind Sav, recalling her vulnerability on MasterChef Australia, where she openly discussed her struggles with body dysmorphia. In a 2024 Instagram post, she revealed, “The self-hatred from years of being called ‘ugly’ for my weight was immense. But I showed up because my passion outweighed my insecurities.”

Sav’s new role marks a full-circle moment. “MasterChef changed my life,” she wrote. “Now I get to help change someone else’s.”

MasterChef Sri Lanka premieres later this year.
