Supermodel Naomi Campbell, 54, showcased her iconic style during a meeting with Thai Prime Minister Paetontarn Shinawatra in Bangkok this week. Invited by former PM Thaksin Shinawatra, Campbell is advising Thailand’s government on training models to boost the country’s global fashion influence as part of its soft power campaign. “I sought Naomi’s expertise due to her industry connections and decades of experience,” Thaksin stated.
Dressed in a bold scarlet Chanel tweed suit, silver statement jewelry, and sleek heels, Campbell epitomized elegance. The supermodel, renowned for breaking racial barriers in fashion, aims to help Thailand cultivate talent and establish itself as a fashion hub through collaborations and cultural exchanges.

A Trailblazer’s Legacy
Campbell, part of the ‘90s "Big Five" supermodels, made history as the first Black model to grace multiple Vogue covers. Beyond modeling, she founded Fashion For Relief in 2005, hosting charity runway shows for causes like disaster relief and education. However, the charity faced scrutiny after a 2021 Charity Commission investigation revealed financial mismanagement.
Charity Controversy Unveiled
The probe found only 8.5% of Fashion For Relief’s 2016–2022 expenditures went to charitable grants. Trustees, including Campbell, were accused of mismanaging funds for luxury expenses, such as a £7,800 five-star Cannes hotel stay, spa treatments, and cigarettes. Campbell, banned as a trustee for five years, claims she was misled by legal advisors and unaware of the misconduct.

“I put control in a lawyer’s hands and trusted the process. Now, I’m fighting for accountability,” she said, alleging fake email accounts impersonated her during the inquiry. Over £344,000 was recovered and redirected to settle debts and support other charities.
Balancing Advocacy and Accountability
Despite the scandal, Campbell remains focused on her Thailand initiative. Her spokesperson emphasized she never profited from the charity or approved personal expenses. “Every penny I raise goes to causes I care about,” she asserted.

Looking Ahead
As Thailand seeks fashion prominence, Campbell’s legacy as a diversity pioneer and philanthropist endures—even amid ongoing legal battles. “This is just the beginning,” she vowed, aiming to clear her name while empowering Thailand’s modeling future.
