Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was seen paying his respects at his grandfather Randy Mahomes’ funeral in Henderson, Texas, on Monday. The 78-year-old passed away on February 14 after battling a months-long illness, just days after Mahomes’ crushing 40-22 Super Bowl LIX defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles on February 9.
Mahomes, 29, attended the somber event alongside his brother Jackson, 24. The NFL star wore a black polo shirt with a red rose pinned to it and black sneakers, while Jackson opted for a gray suit and navy shoes. The brothers were photographed mingling with guests before the service.

Randi Mahomes, Patrick’s mother, announced her father’s death on Instagram, sharing heartfelt photos of Randy and writing, “Hard to find the words of holding my father’s hand as he goes to Heaven… Well done, good and faithful servant.” Though Randy had been in hospice care, Randi attended both the Super Bowl and AFC Championship game to support her son, later revealing her father had “hung on” to watch Patrick play.
The quarterback’s emotional week followed one of the toughest performances of his career. During the Super Bowl, Mahomes was sacked six times and threw two interceptions, including a pick-six. Rival QB Jalen Hurts led the Eagles to victory, dashing Kansas City’s hopes of a historic three-peat. Post-game, Mahomes took responsibility on social media: “I let y’all down today… I’ll learn and be better.”

The family’s grief coincides with happier news: Patrick and wife Brittany recently welcomed their third child, daughter Golden Raye. Just weeks earlier, the Mahomes family had celebrated together on the field after the AFC Championship win, with Randi, Brittany, Jackson, and Patrick’s father, Patrick Sr., sharing a poignant moment.

Randy’s death marks a bittersweet chapter for the Mahomes family, balancing sorrow with gratitude for his legacy. As Patrick reflected, “Losing the Super Bowl hurts… but I’ll respond and grow.”

The Chiefs’ offseason will now focus on regrouping, while Mahomes mourns a man who fiercely supported his career. For now, family remains at the heart of his journey.
