Actor Simon Fisher-Becker, best known for roles in Harry Potter and Doctor Who, has died at age 63, his agent confirmed Sunday. The news was announced by Jaffrey Management’s Kim Barry, who described him as a “beloved and gifted performer.”

Fisher-Becker played the Fat Friar in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001) and the charismatic Dorium Maldovar in Doctor Who (2010–2011). His deep voice and commanding presence made him a fan favorite, particularly in Doctor Who, where his character famously declared, “Silence will fall.”

Steven Moffat, Doctor Who’s former showrunner, paid tribute: “Simon brought wit, warmth, and brilliance to every role. Dorium’s lines were unforgettable, thanks to his delivery. We’ve lost a true talent.”

Beyond these franchises, Fisher-Becker appeared in The Sarah Jane Adventures, Torchwood, and the 2017 film The Ritual. Born in Bristol in 1962, he studied psychology at Oxford before pursuing acting in the 1990s.

Fans and colleagues flooded social media with condolences. One fan tweeted, “His voice alone could command galaxies. Rest in peace, legend.”
