Royal Jack Russells: UK Ownership Surges 75% Following King and Queen’s Adoption
Jack Russell Terriers: The Royal Favorites Sweeping the UK
The Jack Russell Terrier—a breed known for its energy, intelligence, and stubborn charm—has become one of Britain’s most beloved dogs, backed by a royal seal of approval. According to recent data from the Kennel Club, Jack Russell puppy registrations surged by 75% in early 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, cementing their status as a national favorite.

This spike in popularity may stem from King Charles and Queen Camilla’s well-documented love for the breed. The couple previously owned two Jack Russells, Beth and Bluebell, adopted from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in 2011 and 2012. Beth, who passed away in late 2023, was a constant companion to Camilla and even inspired an embroidered design on the Queen’s coronation gown. Earlier this year, the royals welcomed a new rescue pup, Moley—a “much-loved” Jack Russell mix described as delightfully mischievous.

The trend mirrors the late Queen Elizabeth II’s influence on Corgi popularity. Today, the Kennel Club reports the Cocker Spaniel as the UK’s second-most-popular breed, trailing only the Labrador Retriever. The Duke and Duchess of Westminster’s Cocker Spaniel, Orla, recently made headlines after giving birth to four puppies, further boosting the breed’s appeal.
