Simone Biles remains undecided about competing at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics but confirms she’ll attend in some capacity.
Four-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles has revealed she will “be at” the 2028 Los Angeles Games—but isn’t sure whether she’ll compete or watch from the stands. The gymnastics icon, who added three golds and a silver at Paris 2024 to her career total of 11 Olympic medals, emphasized the physical and mental toll of training.
“Right now, I’m focusing on healing,” said Biles, 28. “The Olympics take a toll on your body, and I’ve sacrificed time with family, friends, and my husband. I need to enjoy this break before deciding.”
She added: “People think it’s a one-year commitment, but it’s a four-year journey. LA is exciting, but competing again? I’m not sure yet.”
Biles won three golds and a silver in Paris, solidifying her status as one of gymnastics’ all-time greats.
Biles spoke after receiving the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year award in Madrid, tying Serena Williams’ record of four wins. During her acceptance speech, she thanked her husband, NFL safety Jonathan Owens, on their second wedding anniversary, noting his absence due to training with the Chicago Bears.
She also praised Brazilian rival Rebeca Andrade, who claimed the Comeback of the Year award after overcoming three ACL tears. Andrade edged Biles for floor exercise gold in Paris while earning silvers in vault and all-around.
“Rebeca will probably be better than me someday,” Biles said. “She’s extraordinary—her resilience inspires me. Competing against her pushes me to be my best.”
Biles accepted her fourth Laureus Sportswoman of the Year award, matching Serena Williams’ record.
Andrade, 25, has nine world medals to Biles’ 30, but Biles believes her rival’s potential is limitless: “If she stays healthy, her medal count will soar. I’m proud to call her a competitor and a friend.”
As for her own future, Biles remains noncommittal but optimistic: “LA 2028 will be special. Whether I’m on the floor or in the stands, I’ll be there to celebrate the sport.”
