Spotify Crashes in the UK, Leaving Thousands Without Music

Spotify, one of the UK’s most popular music streaming platforms, suffered a major outage this afternoon, leaving thousands of users unable to access their playlists. Reports flooded Downdetector starting at 13:30 BST, with over 4,000 complaints logged within hours. The majority cited app crashes and inaccessible downloads.

Frustrated listeners quickly turned to social media to vent. “Spotify is down again,” one user tweeted, sharing a screenshot of the app with a mock tombstone bearing the Spotify logo. Another posted an error message reading, “This content isn’t available right now,” asking, “Is Spotify down or am I going crazy?” A gym-goer lamented, “I’m in the middle of a f***ing workout.”

MailOnline tested the app on an iPhone and encountered no issues, but many users reported problems with downloads and streaming. Spotify has yet to comment on the outage.

Recent Update Adds Fuel to the Fire
The outage follows backlash over a recent app redesign. Spotify replaced the frequently used “Your Library” tab with a “Create” button (a “+” icon), which offers tools like playlist creation, collaboration features, and AI-generated playlists.

While Spotify claimed the change aimed to “simplify access to music-curation tools,” users revolted. “People who design apps have no regard for muscle memory,” one person tweeted. Others criticized the update for burying essential features under less-used options.

Is the Outage Linked to the Update?
Though unconfirmed, timing suggests the outage may relate to server strain from the update. As of 14:05 BST, services were gradually restoring, but Spotify’s silence leaves users in limbo.
