Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly opened discussions with Manchester City over a move for winger Savinho as new manager Thomas Frank targets attacking reinforcements. The North London club, fresh off a Europa League triumph but a dismal 17th-place Premier League finish, are keen to rebuild after a turbulent season marked by managerial changes and transfer setbacks.

Frank, who replaced Ange Postecoglou this summer, faces mounting pressure to strengthen the squad. Despite securing standout forward Mohammed Kudus from West Ham, Spurs’ summer business has been subdued. A bold £60m bid for Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White backfired spectacularly, with Forest threatening to report Tottenham for an “illegal approach” after they allegedly triggered his release clause without proper negotiation.
The club’s woes deepened with captain Son Heung-min’s departure to LAFC and James Maddison’s ACL injury, sustained during a pre-season friendly in South Korea. Maddison is expected to miss most of the 2025/26 campaign, leaving a gaping hole in creativity.

In response, Spurs have turned their attention to Savinho, the 21-year-old Brazilian winger who joined City just last summer. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, negotiations between the two clubs are underway, with Frank a known admirer of the player’s versatility and flair. Savinho, who is open to the move, could provide much-needed dynamism in the final third.
Savinho’s Rise Through the City Football Group
Savinho’s journey to the Etihad began in 2022 when City’s sister club, Troyes, signed him from Atletico Mineiro. Loan spells at PSV Eindhoven and Girona followed, with the latter showcasing his talent during their remarkable 2023/24 La Liga campaign. His performances earned him a move to Manchester City, where he made 48 appearances last season, contributing to their Club World Cup success with a goal and an assist.

Despite limited starts under Pep Guardiola, Savinho’s potential has kept him on Tottenham’s radar. A move would mark another step in his rapid rise, though City had previously shown no intent to sell.
Spurs’ Backup Plan: Nico Paz
With midfield options stretched, Tottenham are also monitoring Como’s Argentine star Nico Paz. The 20-year-old, valued at £52m, has impressed in Serie A, though Spurs have yet to formalize their interest.
Fan Frustration and Frank’s Vision
Tottenham’s cautious transfer window has frustrated fans, who fear a repeat of last season’s struggles. Frank’s appointment signaled ambition, but the squad still lacks depth. Securing Savinho would not only address immediate needs but also align with the manager’s high-intensity, attacking philosophy.

As talks progress, Spurs’ hierarchy hopes a deal can be struck swiftly to avoid a deadline-day scramble. With the Premier League season approaching, the pressure is on to deliver a statement signing capable of reinvigorating the squad.
