Surviving the Freezer’s Clutches: Haunted by Whispers from Beyond the Veil

California Grief Counselor Claims Near-Death Experience Gave Her Ability to Communicate with Spirits

Susan Grau, a California-based intuitive medium and grief counselor, says a traumatic childhood accident unlocked her ability to see and hear the dead. At just four years old, Grau became trapped in an unplugged garage freezer while reaching for popsicles, nearly dying from hypothermia and suffocation.

During the harrowing ordeal, Grau recalls screaming for help before encountering three beings of light who pulled her spirit from her body. She describes traveling to another dimension filled with visions of glowing structures, a “yellow brick road,” and the echoing prayers of children. “God, my mom is sick. Please don’t let her die,” she heard one child plead. The beings, she says, reassured her and promised to alert her mother.

A Lifelong Connection to the Spirit World
After being rescued—her skin gray and fingers blue—Grau says she began sensing spirits. “I’d lie in bed and hear, ‘Wake up. I just died,’” she shared. For years, she hid her abilities, eventually embracing her role as a medium after confessing to her family via Facebook. “I’m half in and half out [of this world],” she said.

Grau’s near-death experience (NDE) aligns with scientific theories suggesting such events arise from heightened brain activity during trauma. Though medically unexplained, NDEs often involve vivid visions, which Grau believes opened a portal to the afterlife.

A Message of Love and Purpose
During her NDE, Grau encountered a luminous being atop a mountain, radiating “pure love.” It told her she’d endure challenges but would later help others. “[They said] I needed to remember this journey to fulfill my purpose,” she explained.

Meanwhile, her mother, miles away, heard a voice scream, “Your baby’s in the freezer!” Rushing home, she found Grau unconscious and revived her.

From Trauma to Healing

Now a grandmother and author, Grau channels her gift into counseling grieving families, particularly children with NDEs. “Knowing we’re still connected [to loved ones] is powerful for healing,” she said. Her book, Infinite Life, Infinite Lessons, details her journey and the spiritual insights she gained.

Grau’s story challenges conventional understanding, blending mystery with a message of hope. As she puts it: “What you try to control controls you. What you run after chases you.”

By embracing her extraordinary experiences, Grau transforms personal trauma into a lifeline for others navigating loss.
