Sam Mendes Unveils Star-Studded Cast for Four Beatles Biopics

At CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas, Sony announced the cast for Sam Mendes’ ambitious project: The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event. The four biopics, each focusing on a different band member, will debut in April 2028. Paul Mescal (Gladiator II) stars as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson (Babygirl) as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) as George Harrison.

Mendes, 59, revealed the films will release in the same month, calling it a “binge-able theatrical experience.” The director, known for Skyfall and 1917, shared his lifelong passion for the band: “The Beatles changed my understanding of music. I’ve been trying to make a movie about them for years.” The project marks the first time The Beatles and Apple Corps. have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film.

During the announcement, the actors recited lyrics from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and mirrored The Beatles’ synchronized bow—a nod to the band’s legacy. Mendes emphasized the films’ unique structure: “We’re not just making one film about The Beatles—we’re making four. This is a chance to understand them more deeply.”

The director pitched the idea in late 2024, securing studio support for the unprecedented release strategy. “We need big cinematic events to get people out of the house,” Mendes stated, hinting at interconnected storytelling across the films.
