The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued an urgent recall on June 26 for over 60,000 California Gold Nutrition iron-containing supplements. The products lack federally mandated child-resistant packaging, risking accidental poisoning or death if ingested by children.

Affected Products
Three types of multivitamins are recalled:

  1. Daily Prenatal Multi: White bottle, batch codes 2307050A, 2404096A, 2411100A (expiring 08/2025–11/2026).
  2. Ultamins Women’s Multivitamin: Blister packs, batch codes V0532 (exp. 11/2026) and V0533 (exp. 07/2026).
  3. Ultamins Women’s 50+ Multivitamin: Blister packs, batch codes V0534 (exp. 07/2026) and V0536 (exp. 11/2026).

Manufactured by iHerb LLC in California, these were sold online from 2019–2025 via Amazon, Walmart, Target, and others.

Why This Matters
Iron overdoses are a leading cause of poisoning deaths in children under six. Just 1–3 grams of iron can be lethal for toddlers. Symptoms like vomiting, organ failure, or seizures may appear within hours. Federal law requires child-resistant packaging for iron supplements to prevent access.

Refund Process
Consumers should:

  1. Secure supplements away from children immediately.
  2. Email [email protected] with subject “Iron Supplement Refund.” Include name, product name, quantity, and proof of disposal (photo with initials/date).
  3. Optional: Provide order numbers from retailer accounts (e.g., Amazon Order History).

iHerb is contacting known customers, but all purchasers must act proactively.

Health Risks & Emergency Care
No injuries or deaths are reported yet, but iron poisoning can escalate rapidly. If a child ingests these supplements:

  • 0–6 hours: Vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain.
  • 6–24 hours: Potential shock, seizures, or liver damage.
Treatment requires urgent medical care, including chelation therapy to remove excess iron.

Why These Supplements Were Marketed
The products target adult women needing iron for anemia prevention during pregnancy, menstruation, or aging. However, their high iron content (safe for adults) poses severe risks to children.

Final Note
Retain supplements securely until disposal. Monitor children for symptoms and contact 911 or Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) immediately if ingestion occurs.
